January - traditionally a quiet month for most businesses. But not a time to relax...tempting though it may be.
With some of the pressure off, then, now is the time to take stock of your web presence and plan ahead for the coming year.
For the last thing you want today is static content. It has to be interactive and refreshed on a regular basis to maintain interest and an ongoing relationship with the user.
Make sure everything is up to date and that there are no glitches caused by the changing of the calendar. Is 2012, for instance, available as a choice in drop down menus? And is the copyright tag updated too for 2012?
Users want to see a site that is updated regularly and well maintained. If it is not, they will simply jog on elsewhere on the net instead.

All the best for 2012
December was a hectic month, was it not? Everything having to be finished off before the close down for the festive season.
Now we are back, in a new year, and with new challenges ahead. Traditionally, though, January tends to be a quiet month with everyone going into hibernation, so what better time to think about freshening up your web presence?
Be it your website, blog or Facebook page there's always something to be done to improve the visitor experience or update the information that we present to the online world. An easy one to overlook is the copyright info at the foot of the page. It will need updating to 2012 otherwise it appears that the website owner hasn't been near their site in weeks.
If you need words for web or print, contact me now by email.

What about print?
Although onlinewords is primarily focussed on the web, print still forms a significant part of the overall mix.
Coming from a newspaper background, onlinewords is well used to working with paper as well as pixels. Past projects have ranged from Christmas cards to brochures. And probably most everything in between too.
If you need someone to pull together a print job, don't hesitate get in touch with onlinewords

How does it work?
What happens when you let onlinewords do all the hard work is this: we set up a Facebook page if you haven't already done so. Onlinewords becomes an admin and oversees your page and generates content to post on a regular basis. The frequency will be up to you, but at least weekly to ensure continuing interest in your page.
Content ideas will be formulated in advance with the client. This will tie in with your own diary of events or forthcoming promotions and sales initiatives. The secret, however, is not to be overtly 'in your face'. The page is not merely a sales channel, ultimately what you are trying to do is create a community by opening up a two-way dialogue.
Short, snappy articles will prove to be more successful than screeds of unbroken text. As in showbusiness, leave your audience wanting more.

Facebooking and blogging
Social networks are the new hot date for marketing small to medium sized enterprises. They represent a cheap yet powerful means to get your message across and at the same time a platform on which to build up a community to potentially sell and upsell to.
The downside (if there is one) is that very few - if any - small to medium sized businesses have the resources in-house to constantly keep on top of what is going on in their web presence, be it a website, Facebook page or blog. However, you don't have to be a large corporate to enjoy first class online communications with customers. Reaching out does not need to cost the earth.
Contact onlinewords and we will discuss what is possible with the budget you have available. You may be surprised just how far the pounds will stretch. But think of it not as an expense, rather as an investment on which you will get a return in terms of improved marketing, a higher profile and, most importantly, more sales.
